4. Characters you hate and which books they’re from

First off, let me clarify that “hate” is usually too strong a word. In general, I do dislike a lot of characters - mostly because they are weak in a “I am now going to lash out to better people” type of way [see Ruth, William,…]. Weakness always bothers me more than outright evil. Also bad is characters who are destructive AND self-righteous. Killer combo right there.

Characters I’ve felt negatively about include:
- Ruth, Never Let Me Go
- Tom Buchanan, The Great Gatsby [because ARGH YOU AAAARGHH]
- Honestly, most of the people in Wuthering Heights - a book blog post about this is still to follow.
- William Rackham, The Crimson Petal and the White
- Shaddam Corrino, Dune and its preludes [because incompetent AND destructive? GREAT. Just great.]
- several others, but these stand out.
