Saw Gatsby yesterday.
Not quite sure how I feel about it yet, but I’ll be posting a review on the book blog sometime this week.

@1 day ago with 2 notesTry-out for my reading photoproject. Like?
Jay Gatsby, The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
I think this is where Gatsby, as a person, first moved me. It doesn’t even matter if it’s true.

30 day book challenge - DAY FOUR.
4. Characters you hate and which books they’re from
First off, let me clarify that “hate” is usually too strong a word. In general, I do dislike a lot of characters - mostly because they are weak in a “I am now going to lash out to better people” type of way [see Ruth, William,…]. Weakness always bothers me more than outright evil. Also bad is characters who are destructive AND self-righteous. Killer combo right there.
Characters I’ve felt negatively about include:
- Ruth, Never Let Me Go
- Tom Buchanan, The Great Gatsby [because ARGH YOU AAAARGHH]
- Honestly, most of the people in Wuthering Heights - a book blog post about this is still to follow.
- William Rackham, The Crimson Petal and the White
- Shaddam Corrino, Dune and its preludes [because incompetent AND destructive? GREAT. Just great.]
- several others, but these stand out.
theiridescenceoflight answered your question: You choose, I read!
The Great Gatsby
And that makes two for Gatsby! I’m sure John will be proud despite my delay.
(Also GUYS this is going to be a movie with Carey Mulligan, who is one of my absolute favourite actresses)

These are all awesome XD Still waiting for an occasion to use the phrase “old as balls”.

Look at these wonderful hardback editions <3 The Great Gatsby and Flappers and Philosophers arrived today; I already owned Tales of the Jazz Age. Aren’t they gorgeous?
So I’m in love.
Who knows if this movie will suck, but I like ol’ Owl Eyes (who in the novel is a metaphor for God) saying, “Mr. Gatsby doesn’t exist,” because of course Gatsby doesn’t exist.
“Gatsby? I hear he’s an important metaphor.” <3
And yes. I liked it a lot. I don’t know why I never finished it last time. Loving the Tom Buchanan burn.
So I guess this means I’ll spend my evening watching all John Green’s Gatsby videos!
@1 year ago with 2 notes… that I want to read The Great Gatsby now that I know that Carey Mulligan will be starring in the movie? I want to read it before the movie comes out, obviously, but why is this even an incentive?
